This dataset contains dog-level and household-level information on dog ownership, management practices, and movement ecology collected in Machakos County, Kenya. The dataset integrates household survey data with GPS-derived movement metrics to characterise the spatial behaviour of owned free-roaming domestic dogs.
The dataset combines two primary sources of information:
1. Household survey dataset (dog_movement_ecology_dataset_with_dictionary_machakos), which includes household characteristics, dog demographics, ownership and management practices, feeding, roaming behaviour, and vaccination status.
2. GPS movement dataset (machakos_dog_gps_fixes_with_data_dictionary), derived from GPS loggers fitted to dogs, and used to generate movement metrics such as home range size, total distance travelled, maximum displacement from the household, and tracking duration.
The data were collected in Machakos County, Kenya, across two study sites representing contrasting human population densities (low- and high-density settings).
